La grosse moula ou li michan
Algerian, Kabyle, French, Arabic, Tamazight, English... In this documentary film, a family, that of the director, raises the question of the transmission of languages in the context of post-independence and contemporary Algeria. An intimate space that breaks down to welcome stories of other Algerians crossed in the street: Hadj Mourad Sahmoune, the hipster imam of Ketchaoua Mosque, Hossam Ferhate and Redouane, street vendors who dream of Europe, Mekkia Benaama, the university professor preparing the Algerian language revolution... Through their multiple and contradictory perceptions, a linguistic landscape is woven, revealing societal issues around social dominations, identities and history including colonial history.
